The Kaupapa Māori team provides an opportunity for WCLC to undertake a community development approach which enables a focused and targeted response to addressing the high unmet legal needs of Māori. This proactive and preventative approach has the potential to halt issues spiralling out of control, or proceeding to court.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Lottery Grants Board who provided us with a three year multigrant to employ Tom Harris (Nga Puhi, Te Rarawa, Ngai Tupoto, Te Mahurehure) to undertake the Kaihapai (Māori Community Worker). Alongside him, Aroha Herewini (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kuri) from our legal team will provide culturally responsive legal services to Māori through tikanga based services. The Kaupapa Māori team provide a critical link between WaiLaw, and the Māori community.
Please call our office on (09) 835 2130 to speak with Tom Harris for more information.
