Simon Noonan
BA, BSc, LLB
Law Student Volunteer
Simon was admitted to the bar in 2016, after completing his LLB at AUT. He is currently completing his LLM at the University of Auckland, where he is focusing on human rights and environmental law. This study is complemented by his degrees in philosophy and conservation ecology. Simon has been volunteering at WaiLaw since 2017. He finds that this time provides him an opportunity to help the community with unmet legal needs, while getting practical legal experience.
“I enjoy being able to help the WaiLaw lawyers, and the community they support. I get to use the skills I learned throughout my degree and Profs to help real people. Volunteering for a Community Law Centre is an experience I recommend to all law students .”

Leo Lai
LLB, BA
Auckland University of Technology
Law Student Volunteer
A recent LLB graduate from Auckland University of Technology, Leo has been volunteering with WaiLaw since August 2017. Throughout his time at WaiLaw, Leo has been able to learn a lot of valuable skills that are required in the practical application of law, including interviewing clients and being able to apply different areas of the law in real life scenarios, as opposed to the hypothetical ones that we are exposed to at university. Whether it is from attending interviews with a lawyer, answering the legal advice phone line queries, or doing research on case files; volunteering at WaiLaw has allowed Leo to interact with people from various backgrounds and circumstances and he appreciates the opportunity that has been given to him to help make a small difference in peoples lives.
